Why stress reduction doesn't come naturally

Many professionals, executives and entrepreneurs who experience stress get stuck in one of the following 3 situations:

A) You do not realize that you have chronic stress, even though it feels like someone has been living your life for you a long time, and you have been suffering from vague physical complaints for a long time. You ignore it.
B) You feel it, but what can you do to reduce stress? You don't know.
C) You know what you should change, make several attempts, but you don't succeed in permanently integrating healthy habits into your busy life.

Science based method

In all these situations can I as an anti-stress coach (and experience expert) help you further. In a number of sessions you will learn what stress does to your brain, how body and mind interact, and how you can influence this.

My down-to-earth approach to reducing stress is based on scientific insights, up-to-date training in the recognised methodology of the CSR centre (I am a CSR certified stress coach), and years of experience with professionals who experience stress at work and in their private lives.

Short and effective process

Most people suffering from mild complaints have had sufficient success in 2 or 3 conversations to reduce stress: They can do their job confidently again, have a better relationship with colleagues, and experience more relaxation at work and privately.

Are your complaints more serious? Start with an introductory meeting to see how your physical constitution is doing so that we can take appropriate measures to reduce stress. Tackle your serious complaints now and prevent yourself from ending in a burn-out.

Frequently asked questions about stress reduction

What are the symptoms of stress?

These are the most common signs of (chronic) stress:

  • You sleep worse: you have trouble falling asleep, wake up earlier, or sleep less deeply.
  • You're tired.
  • You are more easily irritated at work, and have less patience at home with your partner or children. You get remarks about this, or notice it yourself.
  • You often suffer from headaches, or pain in your neck/shoulders.
  • You feel sick more often.
  • Your cognitive abilities decline: clear thinking, distinguishing between essentials and side issues, your ability to make choices: it’s much more difficult.
  • You exhibit restless behaviour: for example, biting your lip, picking your nails, or wiggling your leg.
  • You have less and less fun in activities that used to make you happy.
  • Weight change. You're in the mood for salt, sweet and fat food, and you're gaining weight. Or you eat a lot less, and lose weight.

I'd like tips on how to avoid a burn-out. How do I reduce stress?

The tip for less stress: Pause regularly. Work hard? That's fine! But combine that every hour with relaxation: close your eyes for a moment, with attention to your breathing. Every day: move / lie down for a moment, and don't do mentally stressful activities in the evening. Every week: do something fun. An evening out or on the couch, taking a long bath, or a walk in the woods. And: don't plan your days too full. Make choices.

How does stress coaching work at Coaching Rotterdam?

We do stress reduction on multiple levels. We work primarily on the bio-physiological recovery of your body. Your stress system sometimes needs to be reset. Without medication, but with the prescription of regular breaks, exercise and stimulus reduction. You learn to reduce stress in a way that suits you.

Then we look at underlying causes and your background. We examine situations in which you experience or have experienced stress, and discover patterns. This way we know what we need to work on. For example on assertiveness, setting limits and self-management. You practice with new habits and behaviour. Together we reflect on these.

I'm stuck in responsibilities. Does an anti-stress coach work for me, too?

Sometimes you feel like you don't have a choice. But even then you can reduce stress complaints. What conviction causes you not to delegate? Do you recognize resources in your environment sufficiently? Are you assertive enough? Do you really need to be the perfect high performer, carer, or parent? You explore where there is room for you, and take it.

How others grew...

"Open and sometimes confronting but above all a safe environment"

Recently I had the opportunity to get acquainted with Marco Tieleman. I was looking for a coach to help me get myself and my work situation back on track. Through the CSR website I chose to do an intake with Marco based on the descriptions. I took the plunge and made an appointment. In Rotterdam I had the intake interview and that was a very good experience. Open and sometimes confronting but above all a safe environment to put everything on the table. In my opinion Marco quickly figured out where the knobs are to let me talk and that makes this intake very valuable. I really hope that my employer is willing to go along with this approach. I found this intake to be very valuable. Marco my thanks and respect for achieving so much in 1.5 hours.

"Dynamic and customized workshop"

Internally we were forwarded the workshops of Bloei. I immediately noticed the title of one of the workshops: Less stress, more fun. Who doesn't want that? Especially the sentence in the advertisement: That you want to do so much good, that you actually don't have enough time for it? appealed to me personally. We were with a small, but varied, group and under Marco's leadership there was fun interaction. It's interesting to hear that experiencing stress is different for everyone, but also has a lot in common. Marco did not have a fixed list that had to be checked. This resulted in a dynamic and tailor-made workshop. In the end we worked on personal improvement points by means of role-plays. I take a number of tips & tricks with me, in order to better frame my work. I' m going to work with this.

"A nice quiet coach"

I was looking for a coach who would teach me how to be a bit stronger in my shoes. How do you like that? I typed the word subassertive on google, well the choice was huge but that's how I ended up with Marco. Marco is a nice and calm coach, who can listen and read in between sentences and then confronts you with yourself in a pleasant way. Of course it's exciting to enter a coaching process, you can not do it, then you keep doing what you do. Yes and growing, you do it yourself! Marco asked me: Who do you want to be? My answer was: myself with the soft side to the outside world. This produces beautiful things, I pause more at moments of happiness, enjoy myself more, feel freer. I have no regrets that I went onto this path.
